Dr. Peter Lowenthal, Dr. James Walters, Dr. Nahmi Jones and our team are committed to bringing you and your pets better health by practicing the science of Veterinary Medicine. North Hollywood based Blue Cross Pet Hospital was founded in 1949. Since then our staff has been performing veterinary medicine and compassionate animal care in the North Hollywood area. Blue Cross Pet Hospital is a full-service Animal Hospital whose mission is to provide the highest standard of quality and compassion in veterinary care for our patients and welcoming, informative, and supportive service for our clients, while maintaining a superior working environment for our employees. Blue Cross Pet Hospital offers the North Hollywood animal community emergency veterinary services in addition to standard medical, surgical, and dental veterinary care. Because we have an in-house pharmacy, lab, radiology facilities, and Intensive Care Unit, our facility enables you to make one stop for your pet's medical care. We are open for appointments during normal business hours, evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. We are always available in an emergency, just call or come in.

Dr. James Walters

Dr. James Walters graduated Magna Cumlaude from West Virginia University in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. He then attended Purdue University, and received a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1980. After graduation, Dr. Walters moved to the Los Angeles area where he began working for Blue Cross Pet Hospital. In 1988 he became co-owner of Blue Cross Pet Hospital with Dr. Peter Lowenthal. His professional interests are soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and geriatric medicine. Dr. Walters currently lives in Studio City with his wife, Mitzi, a registered pharmacist employed by Costco Pharmacies. Dr. Walters has two grown children currently attending college on the East Coast. He enjoys wildlife photography, bird watching, traveling, reading, and running.

Dr. Peter Lowenthal

Dr. Peter Lowenthal graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He was accepted into the veterinary program at Cornell Veterinary School in Ithaca New York, and received a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1984. After graduation, he completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at California Animal Hospital in 1985, and then began his employment here at Blue Cross Pet Hospital. His professional interests are small animal internal medicine and critical care. In 1988, Dr. Lowenthal became co-owner of Blue Cross Pet Hospital with Dr. James Walters. He currently lives in Studio City with his wife and two sons, and enjoys tennis, bicycling, spinning, movies, reading, and coaching little league.
