Dogs are man's best friend, and come in all shapes and sizes. Bred for specific jobs most breeds have distinct characteristics and qualities. It is a good idea to research the qualities of a breed before actually adopting or purchasing a dog. Matching your lifestyle to the qualities of the breed will make you friendship everlasting. If a pure bred dog is not what your shopping for, the a mixed breed is a great companion option. Dogs of mixed breed will carry some qualities of each breed and make great pets.

Cats make wonderful pets for a household that is on the go. Cat's are by nature independent and may not require the time involved in caring for other pets such as dogs. Cats are great pets for children and adults that need the companionship that a furry friend can provide. There are many breeds of cat but the most common is the domestic short hair.. With little need for grooming it is one of the most popular choices for feline companion animals.

Hamsters and gerbils are small nocturnal creatures that require a minimum of care time but still provide that warm fuzzy feeling. The mainstay of a gerbil or hamster diet is of a commercial seed, hay and some vegetables. Fresh water should be provided with a hanging dropper bottle. Great care should be taken NOT to choose a male and a female if two are to be housed in the same environment.

Snakes and lizards are pets for people with special tastes. For these owners observing the reptile in its environment may overtake the urge for cuddling. Lizards and snakes will need an aquarium, set up with a heat lamp, thermostat, lights, plants, a perch, and bedding, an under tank heater may also be needed under the bedding as well as a mister or spray bottle to provide droplets of water which your lizard will drink.

The realm of exotic pets is always changing, as taste for the odd and rare becomes let's say more and more exotic. Several years ago exotic would have been considered to be pets like snakes and lizards that are now considered common place. Dr Andreoli deals with a variety of exotic animals his practice. Monkeys, hedgehogs, spiders, kincajuos have become increasingly popular and are great pets. Chinchillas are also a more recent option in the exotic pet area.

h what can I say about large animals; they may include your barnyard varieties, horses, goats, cattle, sheep and pigs. I suppose large animals may also have more exotic components like water buffalos and yaks, and perhaps even the very tall giraffes, yup they're pretty large animals. If you've got one we'll see it.

Rabbits make wonderful indoor companions, and like cats can be trained to use a litter box. Indoor rabbits may have double the life span of outdoor rabbits. Whether in an outdoor hutch or an indoor environment, there are many different breeds of rabbits to choose from. Each varies in ratings for calmness, size and tendency to nip. Some popular small breeds of rabbits are the Netherlands Dwarf and the Holland Lop. Care for rabbits depend on the length of their coat.
