Howard Hollander
Dr. Howard Hollander
Medical Director
Dr. Howard Hollander was born in Far Rockaway, NY, and has lived in the Rockaways all of his life. He attended Queens College, and graduated from the University of Bologna, Italy in 1977 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he spent some time at the Animal Eye Clinic of New York and then went to work in Brooklyn at the Animal Hospital of Brooklyn where he became the Director of Medical Services at their 4th Avenue branch. In 1981 he took over the practice of Dr. Richard Gillespie, the Bay Ridge Animal Hospital, at 6803 5th Avenue where he and his brother Dr. Paul Hollander developed a well known multi-doctor small animal practice. In 2006 Dr. Hollander fulfilled his career long dream of building a state of the art small animal facility with over 6,000 sq. feet of hospital and all the bells and whistles to provide his patients with the comfort and caring he feels they deserve.
Megan Nunemacher
Dr. Megan Nunemacher
Associate Veterinarian
VMD, University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Megan Nunemacher was born and raised amongst a menagerie of beloved family pets in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate studies at Penn State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Animal Science. While at Penn State, she spent much of her free time performing volunteer work and cheering on the Nittany Lion football team. Dr. Nunemacher graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Her professional interests include surgery, internal medicine, acupuncture, and exotic medicine.
When not at work, Dr. Nunemacher enjoys attending concerts and theater performances, traveling abroad and playing with her charming toy poodle, Pepito.
Loretta Pesteanu
Dr. Lorette Pesteanu
Associate Veterinarian
DVM, North Carolina State University
Dr. Loretta Pesteanu was born in Romania and raised in both Canada and the eastern United States. She received her Bachelor of Animal Science degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina State University, where she attended the NCSU-College of Veterinary Medicine and became the founding president of the Student Chapter of the Society for Veterinary Medical Ethics and later co-founded LIFE Animal Haven rescue society with several of her vet school classmates. Dr. Pesteanu received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine diploma in 2003 and has been with the Bay Ridge Animal Hospital ever since. She is a published researcher in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery and her professional interests include soft tissue surgery, oncology, cardiology and dermatology, and she is passionate about preventative medicine, client education and promoting the human-animal bond.
When not at work, Dr Pesteanu’s favorite things include the NYC nightlife, traveling, motorcycle and horse back riding, snorkeling and most of all sharing her life with her four beautiful cats and two sweet dogs
