Thank you for your interest in Capeside Animal Hospital. We are a full service animal hospital providing medical and surgical care to dogs and cats. Our philosophy of practice is to provide our patients and clients with high quality medical care in a compassionate and ethical manner.

Our services include small animal internal medicine and surgery, laser surgery, chemotherapy, ultrasound, dentistry, video otoscopy, radiology, preventative medicine, boarding, house calls and grooming. We are the only animal hospital in Brunswick County open on Sundays!

Dr. Sheila Hanby

Dr. Sheila Hanby

Wilmington native, Dr. Hanby received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington in 1992. Pursuing her life long goal, she then attended North Carolina State University and obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1996. Following graduation, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Coral Springs Animal Hospital in Florida. She practiced in Florida and in Charlotte before moving back to Wilmington in 1999. She worked as an associate veterinarian for 5 years and then decided to fulfill her dream of opening her own animal hospital. She established Capeside Animal Hospital on March 8, 2005.

Dr. Danielle Moore

Dr. Danielle Moore

Dr. Moore spent her childhood in a small rural town in upstate New York at the base of the Adirondack Mountains. Upon graduating high school, she moved to the coast of southern Maine where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in marine Biology and Medical Biology at the University of New England. She attended veterinary school at Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine where she pursued a Mast of Science in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Preventative Medicine concurrently with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2002. Dr. Moore and her husband (also a veterinarian) had been practicing veterinary medicine in the Mt. Washington Valley in New Hampshire before relocating to North Carolina in the spring of 2006.

Dr. Moore works as a relief veterinarian for the Wilmington Animal Emergency and Trauma Hospital and has found a progressive practice with advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities at Capeside Animal Hospital. She is very proud to have joined Dr. Hanby and her staff in May of 2009 and looks forward to a long future together.

Dr. Colleen  Peat

Dr. Colleen Peat

Dr. Peat is a North Carolina native who received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University in 1992. She continued her education receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. GO WOLFPACK! She enjoyed practicing in a small animal hospital in Fayetteville, NC for 7 years. In 2003, she and her husband, Kirk, moved to Asheville, North Carolina where Dr. Peat continued her career as a relief veterinarian in one the busiest emergency clinics in Western North Carolina. While in Asheville, she also had a wonderful opportunity to serve as an adjunct professor at Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College's (ABTCC) newly acredited Registered Veterinary Technician program. At ABTCC, she taught Clinical Practices I, II, and III to future veterinary technicians. In 2006, her husband's job relocated Dr. Peat to Wilmington, North Carolina where she continued to practice as a relief veterinarian in many clinics throughout New Hanover County. In the summer of 2010, Dr. Peat joined Capeside Animal Hospital where she feels honored to practice in a high quality, compassionate environment. Dr. Peat shares her home with her husband, Kirk, her 6 year old son, Keegan, and her 3 year old twin daughters Karina and Kiley. In addition, she has a 10 year old French Bulldog, Immey, 10 year old cat named Minnie, and her 2 year old dog Lucy who was adopted from New Hanover County Animal Control.

Dr. Erin Barney

Dr. Erin Barney

Dr. Erin Barney grew up in York, PA, and then attended Cabrini College in Radnor, PA, where she majored in Elementary Education and Biology. While there she played both basketball and soccer for her college and was also a member of the Student Government. She then moved on to UNC-Wilmington, where she earned her M.S. in Marine Biology studying bottlenose dolphins. After this, she attended veterinary school at the University of Florida, earning a DVM in 2008. She has practiced in Florida as well as the Outer Banks, working primarily with small animals (dogs and cats), but also with assorted wildlife like sea turtles, red wolves and coyotes.

Dr. Barney is happy to be here at Capeside Animal Hospital, and enjoys working as a team with the other doctors and staff. She strongly agrees with the practice's emphasis on preventative medicine and client communication. Dr. Barney enjoys boating and swimming with her husband C.P. in her spare time. She also finds time for long-distance running and road cycling. She has four dogs: Peake (11 years old, chocolate Labrador mix), Darwin (12 years old, Newfoundland/Golden mix), BB (2 years old, Labrador/Boykin spaniel mix), and Petunia (1 year old, dachshund mix), as well as two cats: Nubbins (4 years old, 3-legged and deaf) and Baker (3 years old, shattered pelvis from dog attack).
