When you arrive at Dreaming Summit, you and your pet can expect to be greeted by a friendly staff member. It is our sincere desire to make you and your pet feel welcome and comfortable. You will be asked about your pet's health history of immunizations, illness, and any injuries.
Private examination rooms are available to discuss your pet's health with one of our highly skilled veterinarians - Dr. Hillebrand and Dr. Derek Bower.
We look forward to meeting you and your pets!
Dr. Matthew Hillebrand
Dr. Matthew Hillebrand graduated from Oregon State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. During this time, he spent two years in Washington State University and earned doctorate degrees from both schools.
Dr. Hillebrand met his wife, Kristi, while in school on an externship here in Arizona. His first professional job was in Las Vegas, Nevada. He grew tired of the glitz and glitter and moved back here to Arizona in 1996. That same year, he married Kristi.
Early in his career, he spent time in both small animal and equine practice. Equine practice was fun, but that gave way to practicing small animal emergency medicine full time.
As time went on, he realized that even though emergency medicine offered great challenges, and was a wonderful learning experience, the stress and odd hours required were not great on a new family. By now he had two young boys, Hayden, and Justin.
Seeing a need for a career change, and an opportunity in our community, Dreaming Summit Animal Hospital was born. Although not too many horses walk through the doors these days, the experience gained from both equine practice, day time and emergency medicine has helped Dreaming Summit become what it is today.
When not working on pets, Dr. H enjoys wood working, scuba diving and gardening.
Dr. Derek Bower
Dr. Derek Bower graduated from Colorado State University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and from there went on to a one year small animal medicine and surgery internship at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Bower has been practicing in Arizona ever since.
Like Dr. Hillebrand, Dr. Bower has worked in the emergency field and can still be found occasionally working an odd weekend or holiday there.
Born and raised in Arizona, Dr. Bower attended the University of Arizona for his undergraduate education. Attending veterinary school in Fort Collins, Colorado was where a love for fly fishing began. When not in the clinic, Dr. Bower does his best to get up to the high country for family fun with his son, wife, and two dogs, Lily and Scooby.
Other interests include aquariums - Dr. Bower has setup many freshwater planted tanks with fish and discus, freshwater miniature shrimp, saltwater reef tanks, and has even tried his hand at planted saltwater aquariums for seahorses.
