Description
Throughout the years since, with all the changes and improvements needed for progress, our objective remains the same: to maintain a family of clients and patients that we care for, in all the senses of that term. We want to provide the quality medicine and other support needed by you and your pet, and we especially want to share our love and great respect for animals.
In the informal atmosphere of the reception area, clients and patients alike soon become friends. There's often a call from someone checking the progress of a patient met through this interaction. We strive to maintain this friendly ambiance for your pet, to treat your animals as we would our own, and to give individualized handling for every situation in a small, compassionate environment.
** Services **
We provide comprehensive veterinary assistance beyond the exam room: surgery, including soft tissue and some orthopedic procedures; dental procedures; diagnostic tools, such as radiography, hematology, feces and urine analyses, electrocardiograms, etc; hospitalized medical care (including intensive nursing and isolation units); in-depth geriatric care; and twenty-four hour emergency treatment handled through a human answering service. We are exceptionally fortunate in this area to have a number of high quality referral doctors for more specialized problems, including -- but not limited to -- the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.
Outside of medical care we offer boarding facilities for our patients -- a special comfort for our geriatric or chronic care animals who need medications and extra attention; grooming (mostly baths and medically prescribed treatment ) on a limited basis; advice on all subjects ranging from nutritional needs, behavioral problems, puppy and kitten socialization to arranging for the well-being of the older pet; and the exchange of suggestions and stories from the pet owners in our family.

Doctors
Dr. Alan Tausz
Dr. Alan Tausz graduated with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Sciences from Cornell University in 1971 and from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1975. Since that time Alan has worked exclusively with companion animals, in both multi-veterinarian and solo practices. Always endeavoring to stay abreast of recent advances in veterinary medicine, he maintains his conviction that the practice of medicine is as much as art as it is a science, and places a high priority on a personal understanding of the patient as a whole being. A special interest is the improvement of care in the geriatric pet, enabling the older animal to live with comfort and dignity. Formerly an enthusiastic "noontime" basketball player, he currently works out at Finger Lakes Fitness Center and loves being on the golf course, Ithaca weather and his work schedule permitting. His love of all sports is seen locally in his long-time boostership of Cornell University hockey, but he is truly an avid fan of many other sports as well. He especially loves the "sport" of throwing sticks into Cayuga Lake for his Golden Retriever.
Joanne Tausz
Joanne Tausz graduated in 1971 from the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University. She has worked with animals since 1977; her role at Fountain House has become more managerial and reception based -- with a special responsibility to patient and human moral support -- although she pinch-hits in a multitude of areas. Joanne's love of her animals is followwed by inveterate mystery reading cooking, interior design and travel plannning. (Her enthusiasm for these interests can lead to an energetic exchange of ideas at the desk!) Her personal sports are Svaroopa yoga and walking, in any and all weathers. She too has loved and encouraged Cornell hockey since her college days.
Tiffany Bernhardt
Tiffany Bernhardt is a 2008 graduate of Cornell University's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. She's been providing all levels of animal and people care at Fountain House since 2009: she's the cheerful voice on the phone, the paramount and sympathetic nurse of all patients and the stabilizing force in the smooth running of the hospital. Her bubbly enthusiasm for dogs and cats (with a special appreciation of Dalmatians and calicos!) brings tailwags and purrs in response. In her off-work hours, she is (guess what) a CU hockey fan as well as a strong lacrosse supporter and appreciator of professional wrestling. She loves travel, watching British film and television, and hiking; and in her thrill-seeker mode she suspended herself from the C.N. Tower in Toronto in October of 2011! For more than ten years she's been a big believer of Locks of Love, having donated nearly five feet of hair!
