North Coast Bird & Exotic Specialties is a referral and emergency veterinary practice limited to birds and exotic pets. Dr. Gary Riggs is a Board Certified Avian specialist with over 30 years of exotic animal experience. Our staff is experienced, loves exotic pets and are skilled in taking care of them. Our patients include birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits, rodents, and other exotic mammals.
We offer a wide range of avian and exotic medical and surgical capabilities including laser surgery, endoscopy, and micro, orthopedic, and laparoscopic surgery. Our full-service practice includes comprehensive diagnostic and hospital care utilizing digital radiographs,ultrasound, and CT scans for of all types of exotic pet species. Whether it’s for emergency exams, health screens, or treatment of a serious chronic illness, we have the staff, experience, equipment, and hospitalization facilities to offer maximum care for your exotic pet.
Dr. Riggs is Board Certified in Avian Practice and one of the first 20 veterinarians to become board certified in the specialty�s charter class. He has over 30 years experience caring for a wide variety of exotic, avian, and wildlife species. Dr. Riggs has been associated with the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital since 1981. He is the owner of the Barberton Veterinary Clinic, Animal Clinic: Wadsworth and started the Norton based Bird and Exotic Specialty Hospital in 1993.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Riggs has been involved with zoo animals and field studies for over 25 years and has lectured and been published nationally and internationally on a variety of avian and exotic topics. He is currently the veterinary advisor for The University of Akron, Ohio Division of Wildlife(Div3), Medina Raptor Center, Metro Parks Serving Summit County, Stark Parks, Project Orphan, Noah's Lost Ark Animal Sanctuary, and the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.
Dr. Riggs is also a founding member of Wild4Ever, a 501(C)(3) non-profit local and worldwide wildlife conservation foundation.
