Doctors
Dr. Racelle LaMar
Dr. LaMar moved to Sonoma County in 1967 after her father - a naval aviator - started working with Pan Am. Following in her grandfather's footsteps, she attended Texas A & M University as a mechanical engineering major. Her senior year, she applied to and was accepted into, Veterinary School. Moving back to Santa Rosa after working in Oklahoma City for 2 years, Dr. LaMar did an emergency & critical residency and worked for over a decade at the Animal Care Center. After the birth of her son, she began general practice and ultimately bought Northtown Animal Hospital. She is married to Jeff Penner, has one child and is active in scouting and is an avid hockey mom. Go Santa Rosa Flyers!
Dr. Katie McKenzie
Dr. McKenzie was born in New Zealand and graduated from veterinary school at Massey University, New Zealand in 2003. She has been living in the beautiful Sonoma County for 7 years now and feels privileged to have worked at Northtown Animal Hospital for the last 5 years. In her spare time, she and her husband Sean, with their two sons Cameron and Liam, love to explore this incredible country. She enjoys coming home to her very handsome cats, Canterbury and Mooloo, such characters! "Our pets are so good to us, they make our home a home and so again I feel very fortunate to be a part of the veterinary profession, where my philosophy always is to treat your pets with the same care and attention as I would like my own 'two-legged' sons to be treated."
Dr. James Brown
Dr. Brown was raised in the Southwest, and his family moved to California at age 16. After high school, he attended UCLA for a short time, and a few years later resumed college at Foothill JC, then transferred to UC Davis where he received Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Physiology prior to receiving DVM Degree in 1981. He came immediately to Sonoma County and by the end of the year, began working at Northtown with Dr. Wright for approximately 3 years. He then accepted a position at the Sonoma County Emergency Veterinary Clinic for 3 years, then owned Rincon Valley Animal Hospital for 17 years before merging with Northtown in 2005. He has 2 great kids (Zachary and Rilee), 2 adorable grandsons (Jack and Owen), a cat and a dog (Seven and Cleo). Dr. Brown's primary hobby is music. After 30 years, he's happy to be making the transition from ownership, and looks forward to staying on here with everyone at Northtown.
