Doctors
Joseph Kelley, DVM
The owner of Sauk Prairie Small Animal Hospital, Dr. Joseph Kelley is a native of Sauk City. Dr. Kelley has practiced medicine at the hospital since 1990. Prior to practicing at Sauk-Prairie, Dr. Kelley practiced medicine as an associate veterinarian at Gateway Animal Hospital in Illinois.
Dr. Kelley attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 1984. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. Dr. Kelley's professional interests include surgery, exotics and wildlife and orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association and the Dane County Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Kelley and his wife, Jodi, the hospital's administrator, have two children, Morgan and Brenna. They share their home with a number of pets, including two Jack Russell Terriers and two cats. They also care for a boa constrictor, an iguana and two other cats, all of whom live at the clinic. His hobbies include biking, hunting, hiking and boating.
Dale Kelley, DVM
A veterinarian with 58 years experience caring for animals, Dr. Dale Kelley founded Sauk Prairie Small Animal Hospital in 1951 and continues to practice medicine as a part-time general practitioner there. Dr. Kelley attended the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1951. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and playing cards.
Joanna Proszowska
Associate veterinarian Dr. Joanna Proszowska has practiced medicine at Sauk-Prairie Small Animal Hospital since August 2007. A native of Poland, Dr. Proszowska grew up in Chicago. She attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and received a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and Biology. She continued her education at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. A member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Association of Wildlife Veterinarians and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Proszowska's professional interests include exotic and wildlife medicine, emergency medicine and conservation medicine.
Dr. Proszowska shares her home with Ariel, a Great Dane mix, Andromeda, a tortoise and many fish. Her hobbies include biking, hiking, swimming, gardening and reading mysteries.
Christine Nelson, DVM
Associate veterinarian Christine Leigh Nelson joined the team of doctors at Sauk Prairie Small Animal Hospital in March 2010. A native of Rio, Wisconsin, Dr. Nelson attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison for both her undergraduate and graduate studies. She received a Bachelor's of Science in Zoology and Anthropology in 2002 and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.
Dr. Nelson, who is the owner of two domestic short haired cats named Chewbacca and Evinrude, likes working at Sauk Prairie because of its commitment to high quality medicine and its friendly and knowledgable staff. In her spare time, she likes hiking, camping, biking and waterskiing. Dr. Nelson also enjoys photography and likes to play volleyball and watch movies.
