Cathy Rice
Medical Director
DVM, Auburn University
Dr. Rice was born on December 14th in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated high school and went on to college at Auburn University. She got her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1998 in Zoology, and became a Veterinarian in 2001. Dr. Rice specializes in all fields of Veterinary Medicine, but especially feline internal medicine, dermatology, and oncology. Dr. Rice and her husband, Andrew, have one son named Tucker. They also have two dogs, Ali & Bogey, and a cat, Jackson. She enjoys spending time with family and going to Auburn Football Games in her spare time.
Dr. Kristyn Capell Burns
Associate Veterinarian
DVM, Auburn University
Dr. Burns was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and was raised in Mobile, Alabama. She attended Auburn University and graduated with Honors with a Bachelors degree in Zoology. She graduated for Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. After graduation she practiced mixed animal (large and small) medicine in Citronelle, AL for 2 1/2 years. She then moved to Birmingham and began working at VCA Becker in December 2005. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association.
She enjoys using veterinary medicine for missions work and has traveled to Honduras three times and Uganda once doing veterinary work through Christian Veterinary Missions. She also enjoys working with youth through mentor programs. She mentored for 5 years while in college through Project Uplift. She now is mentoring through a partnership between her church (Church of the Highlands) and dhr.
Dr. (Capell) Burns has a 10 year old English Mastiff ("Dayla"). If you visit VCA Becker Animal Hospital and are greeted by 130 pounds of laziness seeking treats, attention and a good napping spot, don't worry; that is Dr. Burn's "Dayla"!
Dr. (Capell) Burns got married January 22, 2011 to Patrick Burns! Our congratulations goes out to them!
