History: The friendly, professional staff at V.C.A Valley Animal
Medical Center & Emergency Hospital is made up of dedicated individuals
who have made it their mission to help pets live long, healthy lives. To
be true to this mission the hospital team relies on several individuals,
where each team member is equally important in helping us deliver the
best patient and client experience for both you and your pet. And if
things get very complicated, we are fortunate to have access to the
nation's largest network of V.C.A veterinarians and board certified
specialists. In a word: Teamwork! Teamwork is a constant in our daily
practice. From the very first person you speak to to the person who
checks you and your pet out, our team of pet lovers works cohesively to
create a warm and welcoming experience for both you and your pet.

William Farber

Veterinary Specialist
Veterinary School: Colorado State University

Dr. Farber has been associated with the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital since 1997. Prior to that, Dr. Farber owned two veterinary hospitals, one in West Los Angeles and the other in Santa Monica, for over 25 years. In 2001, he merged his practices together with Veterinary Centers of America and became one of the first members of the VCA family.

In addition to practicing general veterinary medicine and surgery, Dr. Farber has specialized for many years in alternative medicine, such as acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, herbs, and nutraceutical medicine. He has taken certification programs in veterinary acupuncture, chiropractic, and herbal medicine. Dr. Farber furthered his study by attending a human acupuncture college, Emperor’s College of Oriental Medicine, from 1987 to 1990. Dr. Farber also specializes in and has had extensive training in the care, medicine, and surgery of exotic pets (birds, reptiles, small mammals such as rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, and ferrets).

In addition to practicing at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, Dr. Farber also practices in Palm Desert, Ca. at the VCA Valley Animal Medical and Emergency Hospital. Dr. Farber has traveled throughout the world, lecturing and working on a multitude of veterinary projects, particularly in third world areas.

Dr. Farber’s animal family includes two horses (which he rides and has shown), a 17 year old pot bellied pig named Elway, two dogs, an amazon parrot, a cat and a variety of other creatures which he helps feed and care for.

Dr. Farber has appointments available at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal hospital Tuesday through Thursday, and is available in Palm Desert at the VCA Valley Animal Medical Center Friday and Saturday.

Elizabeth Fogel

Elizabeth Fogel

Associate Veterinarian
Veterinary School: Oklahoma State University
Graduate School: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Fogel graduated in 1996 from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts with a degree in psychology. After a few years hiatus training polo ponies, she attended Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2004. She worked as an equine veterinarian for a year before transitioning into small animal general practice here in the Coachella Valley. For the last few years, she has been enjoying the exciting world of emergency medicine.

When she is not working, Dr. Fogel can be found riding horses (she has a special fondness for polo ponies and hunter-jumpers), hiking, competing in American Kennel Club agility trials with her three Australian Shepherds, and trying to clicker train her 11 month old daughter (and, less successfully, her husband).

In 1993, after completing a Bachelor of arts degree, in Anthropology, Dr. Folden went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree, in Zoology/Biology in 1998.
She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in January 2008, after completing her clinical year at Colorado State University.
Since graduation she has been working and living in Coachella Valley. Dr. Folden enjoys spending her spare time with her husband, two children, and a menagerie of cats, dogs, birds and turtles.

Meredith Kennedy

Veterinary School: Michigan State University
Graduate School: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Meredith Kennedy is a graduate of Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, and has been practicing companion animal and emergency medicine for twenty years. She has practiced medicine and taught marine biology and wildlife ecology in East Africa and New Zealand, and helped establish a conservation program for Aldabra Giant tortoises on the island of Zanzibar, as well as writing books and recording music, and she'll be volunteering for Vets Without Borders in the South Pacific this fall. Dr. Kennedy loves working with all kinds of pets and their families, helping to improve their quality of life with education and excellent health care.

John Murphy

John Murphy

Veterinary School: Ohio State University
Graduate School: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. John Murphy originally hails from Cleveland, Ohio. In his undergraduate years at Colorado State University, he studied both Wildlife Biology and Animal Science, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. Immediately following, he was accepted to The Ohio State University and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1980.
Through the next decades, Dr. Murphy practiced in the beach area of Huntington Beach and eventually opened a practice, Sunset Animal Hospital, in the Hollywood area. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Murphy sold the hospital and bought a small ranch in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana. The next decade was spent doing relief work in California and Colorado and relax time in Montana.
In 1998, Dr. Murphy headed to the Coachella Valley and worked at numerous hospitals. In 2009, he began part-time teaching at Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine and part-time at VCA Valley Animal Medical Center. Working with and teaching young people has been by far the most rewarding aspect of his 30 year career.

Perry Rhyneer

Perry Rhyneer

Associate Veterinarian
Veterinary School: Colorado State University
Graduate School: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Perry Rhyneer was raised in rural Montana. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1972 and spent the following two years in an equine practice in Southern California/San Fernando Valley.

In November 1974, he moved back to Montana and started a mixed practice in Townsend. Dr. Rhyneer sold his share of the practice to his partner in 1989, to purchase a small animal practice in Big Bear, California. In 1994, he sold the Big Bear practice to VCA Animal Hospitals.

From 1994 to 1999, Dr. Rhyneer opened and managed a PetSmart practice in Palm Desert. He practiced medicine for N.P.C at Rancho Mirage until 2001. In March of 2001 he joined the Valley Animal Medical Center Emergency Hospital team. His special interests in medicine include surgery, orthopedics and dentistry.

Dr. Rhyneer enjoys the outdoors, spending time fly-fishing, hiking, camping and Dutch oven cooking. He also designs jewelry using gemstones.

He has been married for 44 years with one son, one stepson, three grandchildren and one and a half great-grandchildren.

Priyanka Thakkar

Associate Veterinarian
Veterinary School: Michigan State University
Graduate School: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Priyanka Thakkar (pronounced Tucker) was born in Mumbai, India but raised in Simi Valley, Ca. She attended Cal Poly Pomona where she graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences. She then attended Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and achieved a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She spent 1 year as an intern at Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles rotating through different specialties which included surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, neurology, and oncology. She has a special interest in Surgery and Emergency medicine.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Thakkar enjoys spending her time at the beach, doing yoga, hiking, and traveling around the world. She has two adorable orange tabby cats at home named Raja (King) and Rani (queen).

Jeremy Trousdale

Jeremy Trousdale

Veterinary School: Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine
Graduate School: Colorado State

Dr. Jeremy Trousdale completed his undergraduate Biology degree in 1998 at Adams State College in Colorado. He furthered his studies and improved his bid for veterinary school by completing a Master’s Degree in Anatomy at Colorado State University, strongly influencing his strong interest in surgery. Dr. Trousdale received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2007, for which the clinical year of training was again spent at Colorado State University.

After receiving his DVM, he traveled to Phoenix, where he completed a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine at Sonora Veterinary Specialists, again strengthening the draw toward surgical specialization. He returned to Colorado yet again for a Surgical Intern position with Aspen Meadows Veterinary Specialists. He recently completed his Surgical Residency with VCA All Care Animal Referral Center in Fountain Valley, CA.

As a surgeon, Dr. Trousdale has many interests in soft tissue and orthopedic procedures, but does take special interest in wound management and reconstructive surgeries.

Dr. Trousdale enjoys spending his free time with his family and looks forward to having the opportunity to refresh his interests in outdoor activities and physical fitness.
