Phoenix Dog Cat & Bird Hospital

31. Phoenix Dog Cat & Bird Hospital

3418 N 7th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85013

The Phoenix Dog/Cat/Bird Hospital is the oldest continuously operating veterinary clinic in the valley. It was originally established in 1942. Dr. Towar acquired the clinic in 1972, and in 1987 relocated from Seventh Avenue near Van Buren to our current location.

We treat many varieties of small animal pets in addition to dogs and cats. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.
We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and are dedicated to becoming your partner in your pet's health care. We treat your pet as we would our own. Our goal is to practice the highest quality medicine and surgery with compassion and an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner. A variety of unique services combined with an expertly trained professional staff enable us to fulfill our objective of excellence in veterinary medicine.

Dr. David Towar BS, MS, DVM graduated in 1961 form Michigan State University and worked 10 years as an epidemiologist for the Federal Government before coming to Phoenix and the Phoenix Dog/Cat/Bird Hospital. He was one of the first Veterinarians in the Phoenix area accepting birds and “exotic” pets as patients. He is a member of the Academy of Veterinary Practice that requires members to complete additional continuing education programs every year. He is an avid Alpine skier, bicyclist and scuba diver.

Dr. Gayle Bilsland graduated in 1974 from Washington State University and has been in practice for over 30 years. Originally from Oregon, she moved to Phoenix in 1994 seeking a warmer climate in which to pursue outdoor activities. She is a dedicated triathlete and bicyclist. At home, Dr. Bilsland functions as chief slave and litter pan scooper for many formerly homeless and needy cats. One of her main joys is providing for every want, need and whim of a large clutter of completely spoiled felines.

Desja joined The Phoenix Dog/Cat/Bird Hospital as a staff member in 1986. She was born and raised in Arizona with multiple siblings and a variety of creatures.
