We have equipped our hospital to handle anesthesia of geriatric or critical patients, and the healthy patients benefit as well. Each patient is unique, and our approach to anesthesia and perioperative pain control reflects that. It takes extra effort to train the staff in the use of monitoring equipment, the use of in-hospital blood chemistry analysis, and the use of different anesthetic agents and pain control medications. Dentistry: Probably the most overlooked problem affecting dogs and cats in America is proper oral care. Just as in our mouths, bacterial populations produce a film that binds to the enamel of the teeth. That film mineralizes into hard tartar which holds the bacteria right next to the gums. As more bacteria grow, they fill the gaps between the gum and the tooth, creating larger gaps and loosening the attachments to the tooth.
