Dr. Katie Smith was born in New York (the state, not the city!) and was raised in Virginia for eight years prior to moving with her family to Phoenix, AZ. Between high school and eventually going to Colorado State University, she was employed for almost ten years training horses and working with brood mares and foals in Scottsdale, AZ.
Dr. Smith's lifelong desire to be a veterinarian was encouraged by the great doctors she worked closely with through her profession and she eventually decided to return to school to follow her dream. She attended CSU to receive her BS in Bio-Agriculture, then on to receive her degree in veterinary medicine (DVM) in 1991.
In her twenty-plus years as a veterinarian, Dr. Smith has practiced in Kansas, Idaho and Arizona. Each place has had its own unique appeal but she always had an eye to settle in Utah and Banfield Pet Hospital has opened that door for her. Upon arriving in Sandy, Utah, in 2011, it was clear that this would be home. Along with her desire to continue in the pursuit of her goals of being the best possible physician and surgeon, she looks forward getting to know the many great pet owners of Sandy in the coming years!
