Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, located by Canandaigua Lake, NY is a full service veterinary hospital with a team of experienced veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, animal care assistants and client service representatives. Our veterinary hospital was established in 1976 and was previously owned and operated by Dr. Robert Carr and later operated by Dr. Susan Ferraglio from 1980 through February 2004. We provide veterinary medical care and wellness care for small companion animals.
We are a member of Monroe Veterinary Associates, an organization comprised of 13 full service veterinary hospitals and a 24 hour emergency facility, Animal Emergency Service of Rochester. Within Monroe Veterinary Associates is an extensive veterinary medical laboratory and a veterinary specialty service, Veterinary Specialists of Rochester, consisting of a group of dedicated and highly qualified board certified veterinarians in the disciplines of veterinary ophthalmology, veterinary orthopedic surgery, veterinary internal medicine and veterinary critical care. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and physical rehabilitation are also available at some of our locations

Dr. Steven Smith is the hospital director of Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Smith joined the Canandaigua medical team in 2008. He previously practiced medicine as an associate veterinarian at the Animal Hospital of Pittsford from 2005 to 2008.
A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Smith attended Hobart College and received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1998. He continued his education at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and he was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Surgery, dentistry, wellness and preventative medicine are among his many professional interests.
Dr. Smith and his wife, Alexis, who is also a veterinarian, have three children, Paige, Maddox, and Heidi. Their four-legged family members include a dog named Bodie and two cats, Rusty and George W. In his spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys golfing, snowmobiling and hunting.
General practitioner Dr. Caroline DiCarlo has cared for pets at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 2008.
Dr. DiCarlo is originally from Ohio. She attended Cornell University and received her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science in 1999. She pursued her veterinary education at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Dr. DiCarlo graduated magna cum laude from the Ohio State University and was the recipient of the Preventive Medicine Award and the Marysville Ambulatory Award. She completed an internship in Food Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Ohio State University Teaching Hospital. She counts general medicine and surgery among her many professional interests.
At home, Dr. Dicarlo and her husband (who were married in August 2009) enjoy the companionship of three cats, Francis, Lola and Simon, and a toy poodle named Captain who they rescued. In her spare time, Dr. DiCarlo's hobbies include camping, sporting days, cooking and watching Ohio State football. She also has a particular interest in dairy production medicine because her husband manages a dairy farm.
General practioner Amy Todd, DVM, has been a veterinarian at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since May 2009. Raised in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Dr. Todd attended Pennsylvania State University and majored in animal bioscience. After receiving her bachelor's degree in 2002, she continued her studies at Cornell University's New York State College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2006 and is specifically interested in medicine and imaging.
While in veterinary school, Dr. Todd was awarded the Gentle Doctor Award for excellent patient care, the Pfizer Clinical Award in Equine Medicine and the Grant Sherman Hopkins Award for anatomy. Before coming to Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital, she worked for several years at Genesee Valley Equine Clinic. Dr. Todd is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Society and the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Todd shares her home with husband Brian and several pets, including Rottweilers Greta and Hagen, and cats Samson, Simon and Claude. When she is not working, she prefers to spend her time cycling, reading and watching football.
A graduate of Pace University and Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Susan Ferraglio has been practicing general veterinary medicine and surgery at Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital since 1979. Over the years, the positive feedback and expressions of satisfaction which Dr. Ferraglio and her staff have received from their clients have made their work all the more rewarding and worthwhile.
Dr. Ferraglio is actively involved in the community and maintains membership in several community groups and local organizations. She is a member of the Ontario County Historical Society, the Sonnenberg Gardens, Granger Homestead, a Friend of Wood Library and a lifetime member of Happy Tails Animal Shelter.
Married to Leo, whose hobbies include gardening, watching football and casino gambling, Dr. Ferraglio enjoys spending her leisure time bird watching, gardening and collecting veterinary antiques.
