Located in Casa Grande Arizona for over forty years, Casa Grande Animal Hospital is staffed by a highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated team committed to providing the best in small and large animal care for ours clients and their pets. We are open 13 hours a day, six days a week, and for ten hours on Sundays. We offer onsite services in addition our regular scheduled appointments, walk-in appointments, and urgent care hours at our beautiful new facility.
Casa Grande Animal Hospital is a full service companion small animal facility, offering wellness care, vaccinations, spaying & neutering, dental care, digital x-rays, ultrasound, laser & orthopedic surgeries, endoscopy and a full in-house laboratory. We can see most types of pet and, additionally, we offer equine and farm animal services. We also have a large air conditioned boarding facility.

Deb Nelson, D.V.M. is from Oregon and has been with Casa Grande Animal Hospital since 1987. She is active in the community and serves on several state and national veterinary boards and committees. She is a graduate of Oregon State University. Her hobbies are gourmet cooking, flying, fishing, and traveling. Her household includes a "traveling" cat named Broken.read more
John McWhirter, DVM, joined our staff in March, 2008. A graduate of Kansas State University, Dr. McWhirter began his professional career in rural Kansas as a solo practitioner.
In 2005, he became director of the Veterinary Technology program of High-Tech Institute (now Anthem College), headquartered in Phoenix. He was responsible for the program's initial accreditation with the American Veterinary Medical Association. Five students started the program, and when he left the position, over 100 students were enrolled to become veterinary technicians.
In addition to caring for both small and large animals at Casa Grande Animal Hospital, Dr. McWhirter also works with various local agencies on keeping the stray population in Pinal County under control.
Carter Metcalf, D.V.M. is from Albuquerque, NM and has been practicing veterinary medicine in Casa Grande, and the surrounding area, for over 30 years. He graduated from Colorado State University. His hobbies include flying, fishing, and traveling.read more
Kenny Lee Brown, D.V.M. joined our staff in June of 2008. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and brings with him a diversified background with over 30 years of experience. His areas of special interest and experience are emergency medicine, critical care, orthopedic surgery and general soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Brown is a member of the Arizona Veterinary Academy which mean he has gone "above and beyond the state requirements for licensure by completing a rigorous series of continuing education courses."
Catherine Carlson, D.V.M. joined our staff in June of 2010. She graduated from Ohio State University and has significant experience small animal, equine, and emergency practice. Her areas of interest include orthopedic surgery and ultrasound. Dr. Carlson's hobbies include showing and riding her horses, in addition to the daily routine of horse ownership.read more
Nicolette Gamez, DVM joined our staff in December, 2013. Dr. Gamez is a third generation Arizonan and attended U of A for her Bachelors of Science in Veterinary Science. While attending U of A, she worked at the Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. She then ventured to Ross University, where she obtained her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Prior to graduating she completed her clinical year at Oklahoma State University. She has an increased interest in ultrasounds and internal medicine of canines, felines, goats, and some exotics. She is a mother of two and enjoys spending time with her husband and family, which includes three dogs, a miniature horse, and a miniature donkey.read more
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Danny Gilchrist to our team! Dr. Gilchrist obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from University of Guelph, Ontario Veterinary College after attending Brigham Young University for his undergraduate studies. For 20 years he worked as a large animal practitioner in New York and Vermont before switching to small animals, which has been his focus for the last fifteen years. Dr. Gilchrist is an avid hiker, and author of the book Fella, which tells countless tales of his experiences as a large animal veterinarian on the road and at his clinic.read more
Join us in welcoming Dr. Darrel Kramer to Casa Grande Animal Hospital in July 2014! Dr. Kramer has been in Casa Grande for over 15 years servicing the equine community. A graduate of Colorado State University, Dr. Kramer has spent many years in mixed animal medicine. He has obtained certification in animal acupuncture and chiropractic care, and has a specialized interest in ozone therapy as well. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family (especially the new grand baby)!read more
Cassidy Larkin - Hospital Manager joined Casa Grande Animal Hospital in 1999 as a technician. After completing a degree in Elementary Education, Cassidy taught grades 1, 4, and 5 for nine years. Throughout her teaching career she continued to work for Casa Grande Animal Hospital on weekends and summers. She joined the practice as Hospital Manager in August 2012. Cassidy is responsible for all non-medical aspects of Casa Grande Animal Hospital.
