McClelland Small Animal Hospital is the oldest existing and operating animal hospital in Buffalo, New York. The hospital services cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits and some pocket pets. We also offer pet boarding and grooming. We pride ourselves in excellent client communication, education, and service. We strive daily, to offer exceptional standards of quality medicine and surgery. We offer a full range of veterinary services including examinations, second opinions, spays and neuters, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, in-house full service blood laboratory and x-rays, and some diagnostic ultrasound.

Dr. Matthew Souza
Dr. Matthew Souza

Dr. Matthew Marc Souza was born and raised in southeastern Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Animal Science, from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, then went on to receive his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

He moved to western New York soon after graduation to practice small animal medicine and surgery in the City of Buffalo. Within 5 years of graduation, he was offered the Hospital Director position at McClelland Small Animal Hospital, where he is currently the hospital owner and President. During his veterinary career in Buffalo, he has provided veterinary care not only to the community, but also, the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter and Second Chance Sheltering Network.

Dr. Souza's most recent achievement was acquiring his private pilot's license. When not practicing veterinary medicine, he is pursuing further training in instrument rating and commercial licensure. Dr. Souza divides his spare time between family and friends, and of course, his numerous canine and feline friends.

Drs. Souza, Reynders and Rabener are affiliated members of the American Veterinary Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Society, Niagara Frontier Veterinary Medical Society, and the Western New York Veterinary Medical Society.

Dr. Marylisa Reynders
Dr. Marylisa Reynders

Dr.Marylisa Reynders is a proud native of Western New York. She attended Calasanctius School in Buffalo, New York, graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo (Bachelor of Arts, Biological Sciences) and obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the New York State College of Veterinary at Cornell University (2002). Dr. Reynders attended Cornell University under an academic fellowship for feline medicine.

After completion of her doctorate, Dr. Reynders joined a busy companion animal clinic in the Buffalo, New York area, where she practiced small animal medicine for 7 years. Dr. Reynders has recently pursued special training in the use of small animal diagnostic ultrasound at the Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph, Ontario. She has also served on the Board of the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society, and from time to time contributes to the Buffalo News Pet Column.

In March of 2009, Dr. Reynders joined the staff of McClelland Small Animal Hospital. McClelland Small Animal Hospital is the oldest existing practice in Buffalo's long history. She strives to continue to offer thorough, practical medicine, with a friendly, educational approach. With a strong interest in feline internal medicine and disease, she is a proud supporter and provider for the non-profit Second Chance Sheltering Network Dr. Reynders is also a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

Dr. Reynders resides in the Elmwood Village with her 5-year old modern blue point Siamese named Aubrey. Aubrey has truly been the best companion and gift from her clients. Aubrey continues to be the subject of many tales of amusement at the office. When she is not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Reynders enjoys listening to jazz music, gardening, and cooking classic French cuisine.

Dr Daniel Carrig

Dr. Daniel Carrig was born and raised in Buffalo's very own Old First Ward. He received his bachelors of Science degree in Veterinary Technology, from Medaille College in Buffalo NY. He worked many years as a Licensed Veterinary Technician locally before completing his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St. Georges University. His professional interest includes soft tissue surgery, dentistry, parasitology, and orthopedic surgery.
