Dr. Whitebone joined the staff of the Merrimack Veterinary Hospital in the fall of 2005. He grew up locally in Wilmington, MA and earned his B.S. in Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
He was trained at Purdue University where he obtained his DVM degree. At Purdue, Dr. Whitebone concentrated his studies on small animal medicine and exotics. His special interests were in animal behavior, dentistry, and cardiology.
He practiced for over two years at a progressive small animal clinic outside of Chicago, IL prior to joining our staff. He routinely performed innovative procedures including laparoscopic surgery, ultrasound, and laser surgery at his former practice. He was a member of AAHA where he learned to practice the highest quality medicine and surgery including the use of advanced pain management measures.
Dr. Whitebone is a devout New Englander who loves the outdoors, the Red Sox, Patriots, and sadly even the Boston Bruins. He currently resides in Nashua, NH with his wife Sara and two cats - Cornelius and Penelope.
Dr. Vavra moved to New Hampshire from Florida where she had a referral practice for acupuncture and integrative medicine. Prior to this she lived in Hawaii where she worked in general practice and emergency veterinary hospitals. Dr. Vavra graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and is certified in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Gainesville, FL.
Acupuncture can be used to treat many problems - arthritis, back injuries, cancer pain and chemotherapy side effects, and paralysis and weakness to name a few. It can also be used in chronic diseases such as chronic renal failure and can help provide a better quality of life for our older pets. Dr. Vavra also offers Chinese herbals, western herbals and recommendations on diet and supplements to improve overall health.
Dr. Dening joined the MVH team in May of 2011 as Medical Director. Dr. Dening grew up in Western New York, received his undergraduate degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio 1997, and graduated from Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine 2001. A member of both the AVMA and NHVMA, Dr. Dening's special interests include dentistry, surgery and ultrasonography. He strongly believes that client education is an important part of successful disease management for the patient, and wants the pet owner to make informed decisions with a thorough understanding of the problem.read more
