Dr. Rudy E. Zamora is a native of the east coast, having grown up in Maryland (go Terps!) in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. For as long as he can remember, he has always been in the company of animals. Besides cats and dogs at home, Dr. Zamora’s extended family in Mexico had a farm where he spent many childhood summers surrounded by chickens, sheep, and pigs. Following his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, Dr. Zamora was admitted to the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech where he earned a DVM degree with an emphasis on small animal medicine.
Dr. Zamora moved to New York in 2014 and has been enjoying his new life in New York City ever since. His professional interests include geriatric care, shelter medicine, and low-stress handling. While not at work, Dr. Zamora enjoys bicycling, international travel, and cooking plant-based foods. He and his partner, Gillian, live in Brooklyn with their rescue Boxer dog, Diego, and their cat, Jones.
Dr. Louise Schaffer spent the first eighteen years of her life in Surrey, England, before immigrating to Australia with her family in 2009. She earned her Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from the University of Sydney in 2013. Fresh out of veterinary school, Dr. Schaffer spent 18 months at a mixed animal practice in Tasmania before returning to practice small animal medicine in Sydney’s northern beaches in 2015.
Most recently, Dr. Schaffer moved to Manhattan and is grateful to be working in a new city with the fantastic team at Pure Paws, and to be meeting new clients and patients. She has professional interests in small animal medicine, ultrasonography, and wildlife.
While in Australia, Dr. Schaffer volunteered every fortnight as a student tutor for Stand Up, a company that tutors Aboriginal girls. She also worked for the Red Cross as a community volunteer, and focused on abating social isolation in the elderly. She plans to continue volunteer work in New York City.
Dr. Schaffer’s first pet was a dashing goldfish, Frank. She is a strong supporter of all rescues, and currently has a beautiful rescue dog, Holly, who is a Kelpie and Cattle Dog mix. She also has a sassy male ginger rescue cat, Bertie. In her free time, Dr. Schaffer enjoys cooking, any activities outdoors or in the water, and all sports
Growing up in Florida, Dr. Brian P. Grossbard, D.A.C.V.S., knew he wanted to combine his deep love for animals with his passion for medical science. In pursuit of his life-long dream to become a veterinary surgeon, Dr. Grossbard earned his DVM from the University of Florida in 2005. As a graduate, Dr. Grossbard completed a number of internships in Boston and New York such as emergency medicine, internal medicine, general and specialty surgery, medical neurology and neurosurgery, and a comprehensive 3-year surgical residency.
Dr. Grossbard has practiced veterinary surgery in New York since 2006. Board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, his interests include spinal trauma, critical care of surgical patients, minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology. He is also a certified provider of stem cell therapy.
Currently, a referral based surgeon at Pure Paws, Dr. Grossbard is also a surgical specialist at Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers. He also regularly volunteers his expertise at local rescue organizations. When Dr. Grossbard is not providing leading veterinary care, you may find him chauffeuring his rescue pup, Nemo, around the Greater New York City area.
