Located at 506 W. 42nd Street, our facility is a modern animal hospital offering dependable and leading veterinary services for dogs and cats of the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood & the surrounding area.
Sister facilities to Pure Paws Veterinary Care of Clinton Hill, we are now home to two great locations conveniently located to care for the pets of the Greater New York metropolitan area.

Dr. Stephanie Liff leads a highly experienced and professional team with a collective mission to keep your forever friends happy and healthy with a full-range of wellness services, advanced diagnostics and general surgical procedures. Together we work with clients to create a preventative care plan as unique as their pet to promote the longest, happiest and healthiest life.
Dr. Stephanie Liff is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Passionate about pets and animal medicine, Dr. Liff moved to Florida where she obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Before joining the team at Pure Paws Veterinary Care, Dr. Liff completed an internship at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Manhattan. Today, Dr. Liff is veterinarian and owner of both Pure Paws locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Her areas of professional interest include internal medicine and dermatology. When Dr. Liff is not practicing high-quality animal medicine, she enjoys spinning, dining at new restaurants, and traveling. She is also a huge Michigan Wolverine fan and will always be a Michigan Wolverine at heart!read more
Dr. Alex Schechter grew up in Detroit, and later received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Pursuing a career in animal medicine, Dr. Schechter earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2014, he moved to New York City where he completed an internship and advanced training in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Manhattan. Experiencing great success, he remained at BluePearl afterwards as a Senior Emergency Clinician. Dr. Schechter joined the team at Pure Paws of Hell’s Kitchen in 2016. In his spare time, he loves exploring the diverse neighborhoods of New York City with his fiancé and their one-eyed Shih Tzu, Cy (short for Cyclopes). Raised in Michigan, Dr. Kayla Shim obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 2015. After graduation, she moved to New Jersey to carry out an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls. Following her internship at Red Bank, Dr. Shim practiced as an ER doctor.
In June 2018, Dr. Shim joined the Pure Paws family as a small animal general practitioner, and she could not be happier to be a New York City resident. Although Dr. Shim is a big Michigan State University Spartan enthusiast, she is a great addition to the Pure Paws team, working with Drs. Stephanie Liff and Alex Schechter, two University of Michigan Wolverine fans. Dr. Shim has professional interests in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, and emergency medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Shim enjoys hiking and trying new cuisines. Some of her favorite things include wine and craft beer, Pit bulls, and spicy foods. At home, Dr. Shim is a pet parent to Turtle, a D.S.H. feline, and Lexi, a Pitbull mix.
Dr. Rebecca Kurtzman grew up just outside of New York City in Rockland County, NY, and is now enjoying life in the Upper West Side. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017, and started practicing as an associate veterinarian at BluePearl Veterinary Partners shortly after. In July 2018, she joined the medical team at Pure Paws Veterinary Care. Dr. Kurtzman has professional interests in ophthalmology and internal medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Kurtzman enjoys painting, dancing, and doing yoga. Her favorite cuisines are Asian and Jing Fong is her local go-to spot. Dr. Kurtzman has a special spot in her heart for Rottweilers. Her first pet was a Rottie named Gwen, and she currently has a Rottie named Bianca.
Growing up in Florida, Dr. Brian P. Grossbard, D.A.C.V.S., knew he wanted to combine his deep love for animals with his passion for medical science. In pursuit of his life-long dream to become a veterinary surgeon, Dr. Grossbard earned his DVM from the University of Florida in 2005. As a graduate, Dr. Grossbard completed a number of internships in Boston and New York such as emergency medicine, internal medicine, general and specialty surgery, medical neurology and neurosurgery, and a comprehensive 3-year surgical residency.
Dr. Grossbard has practiced veterinary surgery in New York since 2006. Board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, his interests include spinal trauma, critical care of surgical patients, minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology. He is also a certified provider of stem cell therapy.
Currently, a referral based surgeon at Pure Paws, Dr. Grossbard is also a surgical specialist at Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers. He also regularly volunteers his expertise at local rescue organizations. When Dr. Grossbard is not providing leading veterinary care, you may find him chauffeuring his rescue pup, Nemo, around the Greater New York City area. He also enjoys bicycling, traveling with his dog, and savoring all the art, food and culture Brooklyn has to offer.
