Alayson Phelps
Alayson Phelps

Dr. Alayson Phelps
Medical Director
DVM, Western University of Health Sciences

Dr. Alayson Phelps grew up in semi-rural Illinois. Dr. Alayson Phelps graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Animal Science. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine (Pomona, CA) in 2008. She was a member of Phi Zeta (veterinary medicine honor society) and received the Pfizer Veterinary Specialty Team Award for excellence and proficiency in Internal Medicine. After graduating veterinary school, she completed a small animal rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA in 2009 where she not only treated dogs and cats, but also avian and exotic creatures.

Dr. Alayson joined VCA EMPAH in July 2009 and became Medical Director in July 2012. She has a special interest in preventative medicine, rabbit medicine, and still enjoys treating emergency cases. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Oregon, working on various DIY projects around her home, and sampling all the excellent local beer from the Pacific Northwest.

Dr. Lynn Spolek graduated from Washington State University in 1980, cum laude. She aslo has a B.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of Washington in 1976 and a B.S. in Animal Science from Washington State University in 1978.

Kate Hooper
Kate Hooper

Dr. Kate Hooper received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University in 2012, graduating with highest honors and receiving the Dr. E.E. Wedman award for most outstanding senior student. After graduation, Dr. Kate completed an intensive internship in emergency medicine and critical care at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, OR. Dr. Kate’s professional interests include emergency medicine and critical care, integrative and holistic medicine, cardiology, and avian/exotic species. She is now a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA), a distinction awarded by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2015. Outside of work Dr. Kate volunteers with the Oregon Humane Society, Pro-Bone-O Veterinary Clinics, and is an executive board member of the Whole Dog Academy. She enjoys running, camping, and cooking. She is a native of Portland, Oregon and is very excited to be practicing in the Pacific NW, where she shares her home with her two adorable kitties, Bucky and Milo."
