Our hospital's mission is Wellness and Prevention

A long, happy, active life—that's what we all want for our pets. And with proper care and today's revolutionary veterinary advancements, more and more animals are living well into their golden years—and enjoying those years fit and happy.

At Plymouth Animal Hospital, we believe the best way to ensure long-term health is with regular wellness examinations, up-to-date immunizations and diagnostic evaluation, as needed. It's the best way we know to prevent small, manageable, treatable issues from becoming serious illnesses—illnesses that may become much more costly to treat if left undiagnosed.

That's why we like to see our patients when they are at their best—at a regularly scheduled routine examination. They'll receive required immunizations, of course, but they'll also benefit from the extra attention needed to build the foundation for a healthy, happy and active life.

Dr. Daniel Stewart

Associate Veterinarian
Dvm, Tufts University
Certifications: Acvo

Hello my name is Dr. Dan Stewart. I am excited to be a part of the Vca Plymouth Animal Hospital and Pet Resort team. I graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. I have a special interest in preventive care and dentistry. I am happily married to a classmate from Tufts. We live in Plymouth and currently have a tiny little mixed breed dog and three cats. We hope to dig a goldfish pond this spring as we had one at our previous house and miss having the fish. We enjoy going to the beach, traveling, and I enjoy fly fishing. I used to work as a John Deere small engine mechanic before going to veterinary school and spent most of my youth working on a dairy farm in New Hampshire. I look forward to learning new medical techniques and communication styles from everyone here.

Dr. James Lear
Dr. James Lear

Dr. Lear was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Economics and Business at the University of California Los Angeles. After a number of years in the business community he refocused his career goals, and attended veterinary school at the University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College. After graduating in 2003, he moved to Cape Cod, where he practiced both general and emergency medicine for nine years. He has been working for VCA for 5 years. As Medical Director, Dr. Lear has a strong interest in preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, pain management, acupuncture, and herbal therapies.

Dr. Lear’s interest in acupuncture and adjunctive therapies began in veterinary school, where he founded a student chapter of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. His goal has been to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western medicine, as he believes that there are indications and limitations for both therapies. He obtained his certification from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2007, and is presently pursuing certification in Herbal therapies with the Chi Institute. Dr. Lear’s future plans include certification in canine rehabilitation, and certification with the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. He has two dogs Tallulah and Beulah, two cats, Cole and Midge.

Outside of work he enjoys traveling, food, friends and continuing his education. His favorite thing about being a veterinarian is that every day is a new day!
