Dr. Rebecca Martin
Medical Director
DVM, University of Missouri

Dr Martin is a full time general practitioner with a passion for preventive care and internal medicine. She joined VCA Raleigh Hills Animal Hospital early 2007 and enjoys working 5 days a week. Dr Martin has strong interests in the role of wellness care and early detection on longevity and comfort. She firmly believes that we can dramatically improve an aging pets´┐Ż quality of life by addressing health problems early, when they are most readily treatable. Dr Martin enjoys caring for all life stages of both cats and dogs, and believes that owners and veterinarians are integral partners in the healthcare of our beloved pets.

Dr Martin began working in the veterinary field as a teenager and used multiple part time jobs at emergency and university clinics to help finance her way through school. She started her academic training in her home state at the University of Florida, then traveled abroad to study in Glasgow Scotland for 2 years before acceptance into veterinary school in Missouri. This time abroad helped Dr Martin develop her philosophy on animal welfare issues and laid the basis for her interest in internal medicine. After earning her degree Dr Martin worked in Wisconsin before she and her husband, with their menagerie of pets, moved to Portland.

Scott Gustafson is a Board Certified Surgeon. He received his DVM from OSU & WSU in 1985. He received his MS in Veterinary Surgery from CSU in 1989 and became a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1990. Dr Gustafson performs orthopedic, soft tissue, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and cancer surgeries. His special interest is minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of joint injuries. Dr. Gustafson played a major role in developing the small animal teaching hospital and small animal surgical curriculum at OSU. Dr. Gustafson taught small animal surgery at Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine prior to joining Raleigh Hills Animal Hospital. He has two agility dogs Pie & Tango.

Dr. Catie McDonald is originally from the Chicago suburbs. She attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign for her undergraduate studies and majored in animal science. She was accepted early into the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. While at the CVM, she participated in a number of clubs and activities including oncology student organization, open house committee, and was secretary of the student AVMA. After graduating in 2004, Dr. McDonald completed a rotating internship at VCA Aurora and Berwyn Animal Hospitals. She was accepted into a medical oncology residency at VCA Sacramento Animal Medical Group in 2005. She completed that 3 year residency and passed her certifying examination in the summer of 2008. She started a new medical oncology practice at VCA Berwyn Animal Hospital in September 2008. In September 2009, Dr. McDonald started a residency in radiation oncology which she completed in August 2011. Dr. McDonald provides consultation services for both medical and radiation oncology, including obtaining a diagnosis and performing staging tests for all cancer patients and is qualified to recommend surgical excision, radiation therapy or chemotherapy as needed for individual patients. She also has special interest in palliative therapies to help maintain quality of life when definitive treatments are not possible.

Dana and her family moved to Oregon 2008 and share their home with 2 dogs and 4 cats! She is a graduate of Washington State Univ.Vet School and graduated Cum Laude in May 2001. She then went on to complete an internship in San Diego, Calif. in emergency, internal medicine and surgery. Her special interests are dermatology, ophthalmology, dentistry, internal med and soft tissue surgery.
Current special area of interest-geriatric medicine.

Dr. Susanne Lauer, Dacvs/Ecvs, C.C.R.P graduated from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit├Ąt-Munich, Germany. She completed her internship at the University of Georgia and her small animal surgical residency at Iowa State University. Susanne has practiced in Germany, New Zealand, and here in the USA where she was a tenured professor at Louisiana State University, before making her way to the West Coast. Her research and clinical background is in total hip replacement, external skeletal fixation, kinematic and kinetic gait evaluations, surface electromyography, and finite element analysis. She is certified in canine physical rehabilitation and enjoys sports medicine as well as orthopedic and neurosurgery.

Dr. Yuko is a general practioner whose special interests include preventative care, shelter and emergency medicine. Following graduation from Oregon State University, Dr. Yuko has worked for SafeHaven Humane Society in Albany, where she has helped many sick and injured pets become healthy and find their forever home. Dr. Yuko will see patients in the afternoon & evening hours (until 10 pm Mon-Thurs & 7pm on Fridays)! She will always work in a patient with an urgent or emergency problem!

Dr. Yuko is fluent in Japanese. She continues to do rescue work and frequently has a foster dog or two that needs special attention until it is ready for adoption. She lives on a small farm with her human family, dogs, cats, chickens, a rabbit, and a goat.
