Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness

1. Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness

1800 Round Rock Avenue suite 100, Round Rock, TX 78681

If you live in Round Rock or the surrounding area and need a trusted veterinarian to care for your pets – look no further. Drs. Todd Murphy, Denise Murdock, and Roy Brenton Smith are licensed TX veterinarian, treating all types of pets. Your pets’ health and wellbeing are very important to us, and we take every possible measure to give your animals the care they deserve.

Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness is a full-service veterinary hospital providing routine medical, surgical and dental care, as well as advanced surgical and rehabilitation and conditioning. At Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness we also incorporate non traditional modalities, such as stem cell therapy, platelet rich plasma, laser therapy, acupuncture, and herbal treatments. We look at the whole pet and offer a complimentary approach which combines traditional veterinary medicine with alternative or integrative modalities. Drs. Murphy, Murdock, and Smith have years of experience treating serious conditions and offering regular pet wellness care. Beyond first-rate pet care, we make our clinic comfortable, kid-friendly, and calm, so your pet can relax in the waiting room and look forward to meeting our Round Rock veterinarian.

We are happy to offer a number of resources that enable you to learn about how to take better care of your pets. Please feel free to browse our site, particularly the informational articles. The best veterinary care for animals is ongoing nutrition and problem prevention, so becoming knowledgeable about preventative pet care is essential to the ongoing success of your animal’s health.
In your search for a veterinary facility, we believe you should expect high quality care as well as great service. Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care. Our commitment to you is to continue to offer our world class service and a state of the art veterinary facility.

Your pet's annual vet check-up will include a total physical exam, with a thorough investigation of your pet's head, body and tail, and all his assorted cavities. Because even the most cooperative pet may not readily go-along with a tooth and gum brushing, an annual cleaning by your veterinarian maybe in order. Like you, your pet can lose his teeth due to decay and neglect. It's a good idea to keep an accurate medical diary not only of the procedures and vaccinations your pet receives at the vet, but also of notes on things like your pet's elimination habits and any physical changes or unusual occurrences. Keep track of small shifts in your pet's behavior, including urinary marking habits and mood swings, along with diet and routine modifications. Take this notebook when you visit the vet. These seemingly unrelated occurrences may help explain results of your pet's medical tests. Also, if you need to change vets, it's good to have this journal to provide a complete medical history.

Choose a veterinarian who is calm, compassionate and willing to explain all the procedures your pet undergoes. Try to find a vet with whom both you and your pet feel comfortable. Try to have it convenient, choose a clinic with qualified staff and facilities to undertake surgery and perform procedures requiring anesthesia, such as teeth cleaning. Because of the general risks inherent to anesthesia, especially for very old, very young or very ill pets, your veterinarian will likely suggest a few exams, including a chest X-ray and lab work of blood and urine, before your pet is anesthetized. During the procedure he might need an IV drip; antibiotics may be necessary before and after.

Our Doctors & Staff
Dr. Lisa Okonsky, Veterinarian and Co-Owner

Dr. Okonsky started in the veterinary field at the age of 14, cleaning kennels for a local veterinarian in Connecticut. After holding just about every position in a veterinary hospital, she graduated with her Dvm in 1992 from the University of Wisconsin.

After graduation, Dr. Okonsky completed an internship at the Animal Hospital of Pittsford in Rochester, New York. She then relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia, and finally to Austin in 1998. After working at a local small animal practice where she met Dr. Kleypas, the two opened Four Paws at Four Points in 2001.

Dr. Okonsky’s areas of interest include internal medicine and preventive medicine. She is a member of the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Okonsky is married and has three little boys. Her free time is spent with them.

Dr. Martha Kleypas, Veterinarian and Co-Owner

Dr. Kleypas has been working in the veterinary field since 1984 and practicing veterinary medicine since 1995. Since completing her studies, she has enjoyed working as a small animal veterinarian in Austin, including practice in an all-feline hospital and emergency services. In 2001, she and Dr. Okonsky founded Four Paws at Four Points with the philosophy of offering excellent patient and client services.

Her interests include oral medicine and surgery, preventive medicine, soft tissue surgery, and practice management.

Dr. Kleypas’ personal interests include reading, scuba diving, enjoying Austin’s plentiful outdoor activities, such as local 5K funruns (especially with her daughter Lily and super Chihuahua-mix dog Roxie), yoga, snow skiing, and cake decorating. She volunteers regularly with schools in the community and nonprofit organizations such as Girlstart.

Dr. Kleypas earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin and also holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University.

She is a member of the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Dental Society.
